Apples of Gold Blogging Tag

I seem to have done a lot of tags and not a lot of much else in the past 6 months or so. But what can I say? Jessica's questions were so interesting, and I was curious to find out what my answers would be.

Which sense, (smell, touch, taste, etc.) do you value the most? I must say, I'm rather fond of all of my senses. But I think that sight and hearing would be the two hardest senses for me to live without. Does that answer the question? I thought not. Carry on.

What are three things you've learned recently? 1. God apparently still cares about keeping me decently clothed (I've stumbled across pretty sweet clothing sales in one store after another). 2. My knowledge of grammatical terminology is beyond pathetic (so yes, I technically already knew that, but I was recently brought home to me in a new and fresh way). 3. There were a whole slew of bodies dug up at Stonehenge, altering some of the previously-held theories about the original usage of the site (how had this avid armchair historian missed hearing about it back when it was breaking news)?

What book (aside from the Bible) has majorly impacted your life? Rees Howells; Intercessor. That book changed the way I thought about prayer.

Which is your favourite Psalm? Goodness! How could I pick just one? Psalm 46 came to mind first, so I guess I'll put that down. Be still and know that I am God...it takes my breath away every single time.

Are you more the cook or the eater in your home? (Tell me if you've heard this question before. :D) Nope, never heard it before! ;) I love to eat, but I also love to cook, so I guess it's about even.

How do you pick yourself up if you're having a not-so-good, down, or slow day? Prayer is generally a good idea (pray without ceasing and all that). Also music or an audiobook, if I have to be productive indoors. A walk if I don't.

What is your favourite time of the day? Mornings are wonderful, especially the delicious, lazy ones. But also anytime when the people that I love are all in one place and talking to each other.

What are four of your current 'happy' things (songs, pictures, products, etc.)? 1. My newest niece and nephews 2. A bunch of new books, several of which I've been aching to read for some time 3. Being able to go for long country walks 4. Fabulous, almost-spring weather.

What is something that is outside your comfort zone, but you want to do it? Traveling alone back to Mozambique is something I've never done before. It's mildly intimidating, but I'm also looking forward to the feeling of independence I know it will bring. Is it weird that I'm mostly worried about navigating through the two legs of the journey that are in the U.S.?

What are a few of your (current) favourite words? 'Do not be too sad, Sam. You cannot always be torn in two.' - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Return of the King
'I never walked near the edge
Used to fear falling.
I never swam far from shore
Never tried the secret door.

But when you give me love
When you give me love

I have no fear of heights,
No fear of the deep blue sea,
Although it could drown me,
I know it could drown me.'
-Katie Melua, No Fear of Heights

'These...are the stories I wish to tell. And if I have not told them well, I shall have tried.' - Louis L'Amour

Try this recommendation by Ernest Hemingway: "All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence you know." The world isn't ending just yet, my dear; don't be so arrogant.

And this is the part where I'm supposed to make a list of random facts about myself and write out a new list of questions for all of you. But really, haven't you heard enough about me already? I'd far rather hear about you. And as for the questions...well, I'm taking the lazy way out.

If you want some good questions, consider yourself tagged and go steal Jessica's. I thought they were pretty swell.

  1. Thanks for answering all those questions, Janie! And your answers were great to read. :)

I just read about that Stonehedge discovery recently too. And I'm going to check out that book you mentioned; I'd like to read more about prayer, I know there's so much more to learn! That quote by Louis L'Amour is good too. That's all we can do: give it our best. I've been reading some encouraging stuff about that recently actually - when we give our best, God makes up what we lack. And for me, that's a real promise, because I lack so much, and sometimes feel like a hindrance more than a help to His work!

Anyway, thanks again, and I hope you have a safe & happy trip back to Mozambique! :)
